The gallbladder concentrates and stores bile from the liver to help digest fats.  Inflammation may cause severe pain in the upper right abdomen, fever, nausea and vomiting. This is called Cholecystitis. Sometimes there are no symptoms that there is anything amiss but symptoms do sometimes occur for example, after eating fried or fatty foods. This is called,Gallstones.

If you suspect cholecystitis, see a medical doctor immediately, eat no solid food for a few days, but drink 1½ litres of filtered or spring water per day. Then drink only fresh vegetable or fruit juices for three days.  After these first six days, eat only grated or liquidized raw apple, and carrots, with a little olive oil and lemon dressing, for a day or two.  But make sure do not follow this programme without checking first with your medical doctor, especially if you suffer from other health problems such as diabetes.

For gallstones, make around 75% of your diet raw foods and vegetable juices. If you can’t do that, eat as many vegetables as you can and add fibre such as flax seed, oat bran, guar gum, pectin).
  • Avoid sugar and anything containing sugar and avoid coffee, chocolate and soft drinks.
  • Avoid all animal fat and meat, eggs, onions, citrus fruit, corn, fried foods, spicy foods, margarine and refined cooking oils from the supermarket.
  • Investigate food allergies and sensitivities as these are often linked to gallstones.
  • If you need to lose weight, see Weight Management.
  • If you have pain, nausea or vomiting, you will probably feel better for just drinking vegetable and fruit juices for a few days, and have a coffee enema.  See Colon Cleansing for details on how to do an enema.

Most people with gallstones will benefit from a colon and liver cleanse.
