Doctor Gut
Doctor Gut is a drug free innovative range of over the counter medicines designed to treat IBS, bloating and diarrhoea. It contains diosmectite (or smecta), a natural mineral clay along with other active ingredients that are known to support the restoration of a healthy gut.
What is Doctor gut?
Doctor Gut IBS Relief contains simethicone & diosmectite which relieves IBS symptoms by removing harmful substances from the gut and forming a protective barrier to the gut lining.
Doctor Gut Diarrhoea Relief contains diosmectite in easy to take liquid sachets and is suitable for adults and children aged 2+ years.
Doctor Gut Bloating Relief contains diosmectite & simethicone which helps gas bubbles in the gut to combine more easily, allowing for easier less painful passage of gas.
What makes Doctor Gut stand out?
It is different from other products designed to treat diarrhoea, IBS and bloating as it is drug-free. The active ingredient, diosmectite, binds to bacterial toxins, viruses and harmful substances which can cause gut-related disorders and remove them from the gut. Diosmectite can also help form a protective layer to the gut wall providing a barrier to harmful substances. Whereas, other products designed to treat gut-related symptoms such as antidiarrheal medicines work by slowing down the contractions of the gut, but do not treat the underlying cause of the symptoms.
What is Smecta used for?
There are many published studies in both adults and children with acute gastrointestinal infection showing it to be an effective treatment for diarrhoea since as early as 1961. It can shorten the course of acute diarrhoea and reduce the occurrence of prolonged diarrhoea. In addition, these studies have shown that it does not interfere with the electrolyte balance in the body and has minimal or no side effects.
How does simethicone relieve gas?
In recent years, several studies have reported simethicone to be effective in the management of some functional digestive disorders. It is thought to relieve bloating and distension by altering the elasticity of the gas bubbles allowing larger gas bubbles to form which may be passed much more quickly, and with less discomfort.
