Salvestrols: what are they?

Salvestrols are nutrients thatthe body needs to maintain health. They are foundin fruit and vegetables and help protect the body against infections. But, due to modern farming methods and the need to adapt fruits to meet the modern sweeter taste, much of the nutrient has been lost. But that doesn't mean that you don't still need it.
 
What are the health benefits of Salvestrols?
 
The body uses Salvestrols to help correct things when they go wrong, like a police force helping cells to function correctly. They help protect cells when they are not acting normally - usually this means that some sort of inflammation is involved and needs to be got rid of.
 
But, unfortunately, as a result of poor eating habits and modern day food production, however hard we try, we are now depriving our bodies of essential nutrients for good health.
 
Can't I rely on my diet to give me the protection I need?
 
Instinctively we shop with our eyes so we prefer perfect looking fruits with no blemishes or infections. To make sure we get what we want, producers prevent fungal (mould) infections. The trouble is that plants need these infections in order to produce the Salvestrols we need.
 
Generally, we prefer sweet tasting fruits. Because Salvestrols are generally bitter they have been bred out of many fruit species. Levels of Salvestrols are highest in the skin, peel or rind which is nowadays most often discarded as waste matter.
 
Are food preparation and processes to blame?
 
In an ideal world we should all consume locally sourced, raw foods. But modern overcooking techniques have dramatically reduced the levels of Salvestrols we consume.
 

Aren't Salvestrols the same as antioxidants?

No, they are not. Antioxidants protect our cells from DNA damage but are ineffective once the damage is done. Salvestrols work beyond antioxidants by working only in the damaged cells.
