Hello and thank you for taking the time to read more about us.
My name is Jalal and this is our story: My sisters and I started up the OptiBac brand in 2004 with the help of our father, under the company name Wren Laboratories Ltd. Dad had dedicated over 35 years to working as a successful community pharmacist, and given our passion for health & wellbeing, we were keen to move into something with a stronger focus on natural health. We had all been blown away by taking friendly bacteria supplements ourselves, and were excited to discover more.
We love what we do. Every day, we receive excellent reviews for our supplements from people around the world, who tell us that their quality of life is just a bit (or sometimes a lot) better thanks to OptiBac. We're based near Andover, in the beautiful county of Hampshire (UK) where my sisters and I grew up, and we now have a small office in London as well. Every day at lunchtime the team get together and the extended OptiBac family meets to talk about upcoming projects, and we also read one or two reviews out loud. Walking back to your desk knowing that somebody out there is feeling happy because of what you do, is the best motivation.
Our expertise is in exploring specific species and strains. This is very important as research continues to show that different live cultures will have different modes of action in the body. We are proud to have introduced a number of strains to the UK, including pure Saccharomyces boulardii, Bifidobacterium lactisBB-12® and Lactobacillus rhamnosus GR-1® and Lactobacillus reuteri RC-14® in For women.
We all take our supplements on a daily basis, and believe wholeheartedly in what we do. We hope you will find our website informative and easy to navigate. We aim to keep it full of up-to-date information and interesting news on friendly bacteria.
What we do
Live cultures are microorganisms, also known as friendly bacteria, good bacteria or micro-biotics.
The OptiBac range
Our range consists of 12 different live cultures supplements - all natural, and with no added colourings, flavours or preservatives, and including options suitable for infants, pregnant & breastfeeding mothers, for vegetarians, vegans, coeliacs, and for those who are lactose intolerant (suitability varies across the range - for more information see our suitability FAQs)
How does OptiBac compare?
At OptiBac, we specialise entirely in live cultures and consider ourselves experts in the field. Our strains are of the highest quality; each strain undergoes tests to ensure it is stable at room temperature, can survive stomach acidity, and can adhere to the lining of the gut wall.
We focus in particular on taking specific strains and targeting specific life stages - acknowledging the fact that different species and strains have different effects on the body. This is extremely important to us.
We are completely transparent when it comes to the make-up of our products, and unlike many others, we cite not only the microorganism's family and species, but the strain (the specific type) as well.
OptiBac and the Environment
OptiBac use the minimum amount of packaging possible. The bottles OptiBac use are specifically made to provide the most stable solution possible because the nature of bacteria is delicate and are much better than plastic bottles and of course more environmentally friendly.
No need to refrigerate OptiBac probiotics
The entire OptiBac range is shelf-stable meaning more convenience for you, as well as no need to refrigerate and hence less energy consumption.
Why is OptiBac a great choice when you are choosing your brand of probiotics?
OptiBac, specialise entirely in live cultures so they concentrate all their research and product development on probiotic live cultures with an array of live cultures designed for different needs. There’s an OptiBac for everyone; supplements for the entire family, for every life stage, and for people from all walks of life.
Making sure probiotics are effective
Some live culture probiotics go in one end and straight out the other. You want one that is guaranteed to ‘reach the gut alive’. All OptiBac live cultures are scientifically proven to colonise in the gut. This is vital.
All of the live cultures strains of probiotic that OptiBac use in their supplements have been extensively researched, in global leading laboratories, for safety and survival. In OptiBac's For every day EXTRA Strength and For every day MAX, there are some the most well-researched strains in the world, so you can have faith in us and the power of our friendly bacteria.
It is easy to take OptiBac probiotic live cultures
OptiBac probiotic supplements are perfect for busy lifestyles, as they come in a handy capsule, which can be taken fuss-free with a cold drink, or in sachet form, so you can mix the powder into cold food and drink.
You can take them with you anywhere because none of our live cultures needs refrigeration, which is important, particularly if you are travelling.
ObtiBac probiotics are suitable for everyone
Of the range of OptiBac probiotics, eleven are vegetarian, seven are vegan, and all of them are free from common allergens such as wheat, gluten, nuts and eggs. You can take OptiBac if you are following a ketogenic, Paleo or FODMAP diet.

health4youonline.com was one of the first sites offering nutritional health supplements online in the UK. Based in the UK, for nearly 20 years we have provided top quality nutritional supplements to customers worldwide and practitioners in the UK.
Only The finest brands and support from brand manufacturers
We research all brands of health supplement on our site. For all the leading brands we only purchase direct from the brand manufacturer. There are good reasons for this. We have a close relationship with them and many are favoured suppliers to professional nutritional experts and dieticians for their patients.
The quality of raw materials and manufacturing process is of the highest quality.
You can be sure that the supplements have excellent "use by" dates.
We are constantly updated with product changes and information
We have access to they clinical teams in case their are any queries about suitability of products
You can be assured that where replacement products are required, they will be available
That brand manufacturers have tested our facilities and staff knowledge of products to ensure products are properly stored and customer queries van be effectively dealt with.
You will find on our "brands" page, links to each brand manufacturer's products. Many of them operate a recommended retailer scheme, for example BioCare, Lamberts, Higher Nature and Solgar. All of these brands are major suppliers to professional nutritionists.
This means you can reply on the products. In fact, some years ago, one of these brands made a decision to cut the number of retailers with outlets for their products to only one tenth of those it currently had. They did this because it meant they had full control of their products and the quality of outlets and while it had the potential to reduce their business sales, they found it more important to retain their brand awareness quality (but see "why is this important" below). Health4youonline.com is a recommend retailer for all of these brands.
Why is this important?
There are many websites providing health supplements. They vary enormously:
Many provide very inexpensive products that lack rigorous manufacturing processes and top quality raw ingredients. This means the supplements are often ineffective. The same often applies to the rather cheap brands often offered by supermarkets.
Many sites obtain their supplies from wholesalers other than the brand manufacturers themselves. This means that the manufacturer has no control over the quality of storage of the products.
There is an extra layer in the process (the wholesaler), which can lead to higher prices for the same product.
There have been many instances of sellers buying up bankrupt stock, which often has poor "use by" dates and there is no guarantee about how the goods have been stored.
There have been a number of cases of sellers actually selling for prices below that which they could possibly have purchased them for. Even some obtained by fraudulent means and then resold via organisations like Amazon and eBay, where there is a huge problem with quality control of products, or indeed of sellers. Many of the major brands have banned the sale of their goods on these outlets but it has proved impossible for them to effectively police the activity. You should be aware of any risks you may be taking, simply by going for the cheapest price at these outlets.
In spite of the fact that we have supplied thousands of customers, we still believe that personal customer service is key to customer satisfaction and therefore our own success.
Success is important to any business of course, but achieving it is not just a case of great service and products; it's also about how you conduct your business. It may sound strange to say that top of our priority list is 'family comes first'. Our businesses and our jobs are vitally important to all of us but we run our business with the reasonable assumption (we think) that our staff and their families come first. If that seems at odds with the statement that 'the customer is always right', we don't think it is. Every member of our staff is treated as a 'partner' in our venture' and, by extension, so are their families. There is no doubt that this creates a friendly and motivated work environment, which spins across to great customer service.
