Health Supplement

Extract of freshly harvested Avena sativa herb & Eleutherococcus

Alfred Vogel believed that many herbs work synergistically to benefit the user. He combined Avena sativa & Eleutherococcus to help maintain normal healthy energy levels, especially for those under pressure.

Avena sativa
Avena sativa plant, better known as the oat plant, has been used for centuries as both a food & an herb. It is the green leafy parts of the oat plant, as used in juice & energy drinks, which is used to make our Avena sativa tincture, rather than oat grain which is commonly used as food.

Avena sativa herb contains a number of plant chemicals including a substance known as gramine. The amount of these plant substances is highest just as the Avena sativa plant is about to break into flower & the seeds begin to form. We use freshly harvested, organically grown Avena sativa to produce this tincture.

Eleutherococcus is native to North Eastern Asia & is often referred to as Siberian Ginseng or eleuthero. It has been widely used in Eastern countries including Russia & China as an adaptogen. The active ingredients in Eleutherococcus are called eleutherosides. Recently, Western medicine has also recognised the adaptogenic benefits of this herb.

Effective brain function requires a large amount of energy, which is dependent on a constant supply of glucose and oxygen. If the circulation to the brain is impeded, a chain reaction is triggered which may eventually lead to cell and tissue damage and even the death of these structures.

Ginkgolides inhibit a substance called platelet activating factor (PAF), which is responsible for platelet aggregation and clot formation. PAF is also involved in many inflammatory and allergic reactions which cause arteriolar spasm and reduce blood supply.

This substance has also recently been implicated in acute asthmatic attacks and it has been suggested by some clinicians that Ginkgo may be of benefit to asthmatics.

Other constituents of Ginkgo which have significant action include the flavonoid compounds.

Cell membranes contain unsaturated fatty acids which are susceptible to attack by free radicals. Ginkgo has been found to have antioxidant activity, being a free radical scavenger, protecting cells from damage. Cells of the central nervous system are particularly vulnerable to the effects of free radicals as they contain a higher proportion of cell membranes.

Ginkgo has been extensively studied in both laboratory and clinical trials. It is of great interest to note that the whole extract of the plant is more active than the individual components. This implies a high degree of synergy between the various chemical components, and supports one of the fundamental principles of Phytotherapy.

The uniqueness of A Vogel herbs

The herbs used to produce A.Vogel fresh herb tinctures and fresh herb tincture tablets are grown using a strict organic protocol, mainly in the fertile conditions of Roggwil, Switzerland. This allows the company to exert complete control over the cultivation of plants - from the time of planting through to harvesting. All the company's products are manufactured under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) protocols and control. Stringent quality control tests and checks are carried out throughout all the stages of growth and manufacture.

Seeds are collected each autumn to create the new stock of spring seedlings. These are planted out by hand in our organic fields where the Swiss climate is ideal for cultivating strong healthy plants.
