NAC may help people overcome gambling addictions

Thousands of articles about N-acetylcysteine, or NAC, have been published in medical journals, some of them reporting on its effects in cardiovascular disease, neurological conditions, cancer, pulmonary diseases, and tissue rejection.

And now, this very useful supplement is showing preliminary and hopeful signs of becoming a treatment for gambling addictions, as well as other types of addictive behaviour.

Government Campaigns to Boost Winter Vitamin D Intake

Vitamin D plays a role in the absorption of calcium, which is crucial for bone health, and in overall health and development.

Adequate levels of vitamin D, also referred to as the ‘sunshine vitamin’, are metabolised by the human body from as little as 15 minutes sun exposure during the summer months.

During the winter, limited sunlight and absence of ultraviolet light mean that many people are susceptible to deficiency. Those particularly at risk of deficiency are those with darker skin or those who cover up most of their body for religious reasons.

Smoking may increase baldness for some men

Smoking may increase the risk of baldness for some men. Researchers from the Far Eastern Memorial Hospital in Taipei found that Asian men, who are generally less likely to go bald than Caucasian men, were more likely to lose their hair if they smoked.

The study of 740 Taiwanese men, with an average age of 65, was published in the journal, Archives of Dermatology.

The study revealed that the heaviest smokers were most likely to suffer from male pattern baldness, even when a family history of the condition was taken into account.

How to Support the Immune System and protect yourself in the Cold Season .

The way we live and work can have a bearing on the condition of our immune systems. Stress, pollutants, chemicals and other factors can destroy cells. The immune system is in a constant battle with these enemies.

It is estimated that over 80% of us suffer from stress at work or at home. (Reference: Institute of Optimum Nutrition Survey - 2006)

It is important to follow a healthy lifestyle and good diet, with an adequate supply of vitamins and minerals.

More and more it's being shown that supplementation can help protect our health, and one of the most beneficial immune foods is Colostrum.

Some solutions for lack of energy, fatigue and low stamina

75% of the general public now say they are too tired to achieve what they want to in life, and the number is growing. So what’s changed? You might think it’s simply the greater stress we are all under today, but you might not immediately think about diet. In particular, our addiction to refined sugar over the last 20 years - in soft drinks, cakes, sweets, alcohol, fast foods, etc. The extra speed with which sucrose enters the bloodstream makes a significant impact - and not for the best.

We can do something about it though . . .

How to lose 7lbs in 7 days (Safely)

We’ve been fans of fresh juicing for a long time – let's be very clear about this - there are lots of supposed programmes for rapid weight loss, many of them false and many of them resulting in loss of weight dangerously quickly. Often the major part of the initial weight loss is water. It can be difficult to maintain without dehydration and often also means that your body is not getting the nutrients it needs. SUCH SYSTEMS ARE OFTEN DANGEROUS and can result in you putting the weight back on just as fast. That's why juicing is so much better. Our nutritionist has tried it herself. Here's what she says:

More Help for Bowel Disorders

You may not realize that one in every three people in the UK regularly
suffers from digestive illnesses, such as irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, diarrhoea, stomach-aches and nausea.

Over 3.7 million operations were carried out on parts of the digestive system in the UK in 2005/06. When you consider that some 60 million people live here, that works out at one operation for every 16 of the population EACH YEAR. Or to put it another way, one each every 16 years!!

When you look at it that way, it's clear how important bowel health is and how it is that most of us will suffer from it at some time or another. Its importance cannot be overstated when almost 15% of deaths
in the UK are linked to the digestive tract.

We believe a book first published more than 15 years ago, which itself was based on a book written over 50 years ago, deserves another visit. There are also a number of other useful tips about causes of problems, when you should visit a doctor and what health supplements may be beneficial.
It's quite a lengthy article, so rather than send it all out to you we thought we'd simply tell you about where to go to read the full graphic version.

may we wish you a very happy Christmas and a happy new year

with kind regards

An article authored by Kathleen Kendall-Tackett, a health psychologist and researcher at the University of New Hampshire, was published in May 2007 in the International Breastfeeding Journal.

In it she states "Depression in new mothers is common in many cultures, affecting anywhere from 10 percent to 20 percent of postpartum women. In some high-risk populations, the percentage can even be as high as 40 percent or 50 percent. Since depression has devastating effects on both mother and baby, it's vital that it be identified and treated promptly. Depressed mothers are also more likely to stop breastfeeding with negative health effects for each."

Magnesium Reduces Asthma Symptoms

A study of children and teenagers has found that magnesium supplements can significantly improve asthma symptoms.

The study, carried out at the State University of Campinas Medical School, Brazil, treated 37 patients with either magnesium supplements or placebos, for two months.

The children and teenagers were aged seven to 19, and they were allowed to take asthma medications as and when needed.

It was found that the magnesium supplements significantly reduced bronchial reactivity by almost 30% and also greatly reduced skin reactions to different allergens.

It was also found that patients taking magnesium were able to decrease their use of salbutamol medication by almost 40%.
