Bacillus Coagulans (formerly Lactobacillus Sporogenes). Despite the transient nature of this organism in the digestive tract, the changes this lactic acid bacillus produces shift the environment in support of a complex gastrointestinal flora.  This happens by replenishing the quantity of desirable micro-organisms, these then antagonise the pathogenic microbes, consequently improving gastrointestinal ecology.

Bacillus Coagulans survives gastric acidity due to its spore coat which protects the bacteria from the low pH of the stomach, however when in contact with gastric juices it swells and by the time it reaches the intestine has shed its spore and germinates in the intestine.

Bacillus Coagulans is dormant in the bottle and reverts to a growing bacteria in the intestines maintaining its potency.
