DERMATITIS

(back to nutrition facts A to Z menu)

What is Dermatitis?

Dermatitis is charaterised by flaky, scaling, thickened skin, often itchy and red.  Dermatitis is often caused by allergies in which case it’s called ‘allergic or contact dermatitis’.  Suspect cosmetics, washing powders, perfumes, rubber, latex, metals from clothes or jewellery or plants. It can also be water or sunlight.  Stress can make the problem worse.

‘Atopic dermatitis’ often appears in babies or toddlers, particularly in the creases of the body, e.g. behind the knees, in the elbows, neck and face.  Suspect allergies, particularly to cow’s milk and cow’s milk products.  Oranges are also often a problem.

We have had excellent success (though not in every instance) with using the patient’s own urine on the problem area.  This has sometimes cleared up the most horrible eczema/dermatitis.  If the skin is very raw and open, mix the urine with vegetable glycerine oil from the chemist.  Dab it on and leave it to dry on the body.  See recommended books below for a book on Urine Therapy.  This treatment has been used for several thousand years and is recommended in many scriptures, e.g. the Bible, Upanishads, etc.

Poultices combining chaparral, dandelion, goldenseal, and yellow dock root can also be helpful – for external use.

Nutrition Facts & Diet Advice for Dermatitis

Following the nutrition advice below can help to alleviate dermatitis:

  • Investigate allergy and sensitivity testing if possible.

  • Avoid dairy products, sugar, white flour, fried foods and processed foods.

  • Avoid the excess fat from meat – buy lean and preferably organic.

  • Avoid sugar, gluten (wheat, barley, rye and oats) and raw eggs.

  • Drink at least 1˝ litres of water per day (adult – children proportionately less).

  • Avoid soft drinks and oranges.

  • Eat a generally healthy diet, including five portions of vegetables per day, brown rice, millet, oily fish and a little fruit (no oranges).
