"The lack of sustained
human-to-human transmission suggests that this AH5N1 avian
virus does not currently have the capacity to cause a human
pandemic"
They do go on to say that the virus could mutate with the influenza A
virus and has the potential to acquire the means for rapid human
to human transmission, but it does NOT have this ability now. All the
preparation and fear being created in the media across the world is at
present theoretical speculation (but of great benefit to the drug
companies, of course!).
The editorial continues, that if the all-important mutation does
occur:
"
Conservative
modelling suggests that a quarter of the UK population (over
14 million people) would become ill, with 50,000 excess deaths,
during successive pandemic waves."

Figures for the US are that between 200,000 and 2 million would become
ill (worst-case scenario).
The US has spent $2 billion on stockpiling Tamiflu.
The UK is spending millions on stockpiling Oseltamivir.
With 20 million doses of drug purchased in the US alone, and millions
more around the world, it's clear that certain drug companies and their
shareholders stand to benefit massively.
The aim of these drugs is to shorten symptom duration, reduce
infectivity, and prevent complications.
Whilst there does not
appear to be any immediate danger, we are not opposed to being prepared
for this potential bird flu pandemic. It is POSSIBLE it might
materialize. But if it did, we would not recommend relying on drugs such
as Tamiflu alone.
The best protection would not be in the form
of Tamiflu (which will only be available to key workers and very
vulnerable people at any rate - there won't be nearly enough for
everyone). The best way has to be by strengthening your immune system,
so that when any flu bug or other infectious agent tries to infect you,
you'll be able to fight it off quite naturally, or at least reduce
severity.
That will be the subject of our next
newsletter which will follow shortly. In the meantime, it would be
sensible to eat lots of garlic (anti-viral), take extra vitamin C
(anti-viral and immune strengthener), and dramatically reduce sugar
intake. Much more detailed information will follow shortly.
