What are FODMAPs?
FODMAP stands for Fermentable, Oglio-, Di-, Mono-saccarides and Polyols which are certain types of carbohydrates that are not easily absorbed in the small intestine which then pass into the large intestine, where bacteria ferment them. The combination of bacteria and FODMAP foods in the large intestive produces large amounts of gas that results in pain, bloating, diarrhoea and/or constipation, all typical symptoms of IBS. Following a low FODMAP diet for IBS has been shown to be effective in treating IBS symptoms. The low FODMAP diet is effective for about 70% of people with IBS symptoms. The low FODMAP diuet is effect for approximately 70% of people with IBS who try it. *

Dr Hilary Jones, TV Doctor comments; "Lorisian 150 IBS Support could offer a lifeline to IBS sufferers who have either found it difficult ot find a solution or who would like to try to reduce or avoid medication.  The FODMAP diet is gaining increasing interest and is being used by NHS dieticians to help IBS sufferers.  The FODMAP diet does not, however, take into account an individual's food and drink intolerances.  By combining FODMAP advice alongside comprehensive food and drink intolerance testing Lorsian are not now able to provide a tailored solution which may hold the answer for those seeking a dietary solution for their IBS symptoms."

Where does the FODMAP diet orginate?
The Low FODMAP diet orginated in Australia in 1991and was developed by the Monash University Deparment of Gastroenterology in Melbourne.  They found that reducing dietary FODMAPs is an effective treatment for people with IBS symptoms.
Recently it has been successfully launched in the UK and is used by the NHS.

†Food intolerance is a condition with a range of symptoms including gut symptoms, bloating, headaches, migraines, low mood, fatigue, weight gain and skin problems. These symptoms must always be checked out by a Medical Professional. If you have clients that have seen a Medical Professional but have not been given a diagnosis for their symptoms then they may be suffering from food intolerance.
