Easy spray relief for dry eyes

You won’t find a dry eye treatment that’s simpler to use than the Clarymist ™ liposomal eye spray. Clarymist ™ eye spray is simply sprayed onto the CLOSED eyelid – which makes it particularly ideal for all of you who find drops inconvenient or uncomfortable.

And don’t worry if you are wearing makeup. So long as you hold the spray a little further away than usual from the closed eye, then it won’t make your makeup run.

  1. Hold the spray about 10cm (4in) from your eyes
  2. Close your eyes
  3. Spray once or twice onto each closed eye

Clarymist ™ eye spray means goodbye to hard-to-use drops, gels or creams. And there’s no blurring of vision either

Allergen Information: Soya lecithin. If you are hypersensitive to phenoxyethanol, then it is advised that you do not use Clarymist ™ eye spray.

Why Choose Clarymist ™?

PRACTICAL BENEFITS

Immediate comfort and relief

On application there is an immediate cooling and soothing sensation on the eyelids. Studies reveal that the liposomes make the lid soft and moist, reducing inflammation of lid margins frequently connected with dry eye syndrome.

Clinically proven to be effective

A double blind cross over study with 382 subjects resulted in an 89% reduction in inflammation around the eye and an 85% reduction in dry eye symptoms. See details below.

Easy application - no more drops, gels or creams - therefore high compliance

Applying Clarymist ™ eye spray requires no skill or precision, and no suppression of the blink reflex. Clarymist ™ eye spray is simply sprayed onto the CLOSED eyelid - ideal for elderly and those who fear drops.

Immediate clear view

With no direct contact with the eye, there is no blurring or impairing of the vision, so it is safe for use before driving or operating machinery.

No pain or burning

This effect is often experienced with other products, but not with Clarymist ™ eye spray as there is no agent actually entering the eye directly.

Effective and affordable

This is an affordable treatment that works. Even though the purchase price appears high, at over 100 metered doses per bottle, this makes Clarymist ™ eye spray one of the most cost effective treatments available and outstanding value.

Can be used with contact lenses, as well as by people who don't wear contact lenses

Clarymist ™ eye spray has proved fully compatible with contact lens use. It is safe to apply while wearing all types of lenses, especially soft contact lenses where up to 75% of users suffer from the sensation of dryness in the eye.

Long shelf life

The small amount of preservative in Clarymist ™ eye spray quickly disperses during the spraying action. This gives Clarymist ™ eye spray the best of both worlds - a 3-year shelf life even after opening and the qualities of a preservative free treatment.

High level of safety

The spray application means there is no danger of injuries caused by bottles or tubes.

No contamination

As there is no direct contact with the eye or hands there is no chance of cross contamination. The same aerosol can be safely used by several people.

Influence on natural tear production physiology minimised

The unique action of a spray application to the CLOSED eye means there is minimal influence of the mechanism of tear production. The product acts purely mechanically, and has no effect on the physiological mechanisms of the eye.

High product satisfaction compared to conventional treatments

Competition among producers of artificial tears is high and generally focused on professional rather than end users (exception to this are the excellent TheraTears). Clarymist™ eye spray is customer-orientated and has been designed with consumer needs foremost.

Ideal for both contact lens wearers, and non-contact-lens wearers
Clarymist ™ eye spray contains preservative agents which volatilise during the aerosol action and do not carry to the patient’s eye. Importantly for contact lens wearers, this means that lenses do not have to be removed before use.

A non-intrusive therapy
With Clarymist ™ eye spray no agent is actually applied directly on to the eye. Its action is by diffusion over only the very outer lipid phase of the eye’s tear coating.

No direct contact, high level of eye safety
A major benefit of the delivery of eye therapy by spray is in eliminating the possibility of contact injury. Without the possibility of bottles or applicators touching the eye, the patient can approach the task with greater confidence of safety.

No overdosing
Both the measured doses of the pump action spray, and the ingredients assures that no possibility of an overdose exists.

Hygienic delivery, simple spray action
As there is no direct contact with the eye or hands there is no chance of cross contamination. That also means the same aerosol can safely be recommended for use at home by all the family, and in the office it is safe to lend to a colleague in trouble with dry eye.

Comfortable in use
With other products a burning effect is often experienced on initial application, but not with Clarymist ™ eye spray. Although for some there may be an initial sensation, this will quickly disappear.

Immediate clear view, safe for drivers
With no immediate and direct contact with the eye, there is no blurring or impairing of the vision. That means it is safe to recommend for use before driving or for operators of machinery.

Preservative dispersal
Clarymist ™ eye spray contains preservative agents which volatilise during the aerosol action and do not carry to the patient’s skin surface.

Works alongside natural tear production
Clarymist ™ eye spray acts in concert with the natural tear production mechanism rather than encouraging excess tear flow.

Ingredients

Soy lecithin 1.0% A phospholipid, a polar molecule consisting of a fatty acid component that is lipid-soluble, along with a charged phosphate group that is water-soluble. Phosphatidylcholine is the main lipid component of soy lecithin (94%), and also the most common phospholipid in natural tears. It is present in Clarymist eye spray in the form of liposomes.

Sodium chloride 0.8% Present in natural tears. Renders the aqueous content of Clarymist eye spray compatible with the user's tears.

Ethanol 0.8% A solvent to maintain the less water-soluble ingredients in the aqueous carrier.

Vitamin A palmitate 0.025% A lipid-soluble antioxidant component that is also closely associated with eye health.

Vitamin E (tocopherol) 0.002% A powerful antioxidant vitamin which is lipid-soluble and can therefore aid protection and stabilisation of lipids.

Phenoxyethanol 0.5% A preservative commonly selected for use in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics due to its effectiveness in very low concentrations and its low allergic reaction. Being volatile it evaporates from the aerosol state and does not impact on the user, so it can be safely used with contact lenses.

Clarymist ™  has not been tested on animals.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What happens if I accidentally spray Clarymist ™ eye spray directly into an open eye ?
You may experience some slight discomfort but this will quickly fade and will not cause damage or long-term irritation. However, we recommend spraying Clarymist ™ eye spray onto a closed eyelid. If you are hypersensitive to phenoxyethanol, then it is advised that you do not use Clarymist ™ eye spray.

Eye make-up: Can I use Clarymist ™ eye spray if I am wearing eye make-up?
It is preferable to use Clarymist ™ eye spray while no eye make-up is worn. However, if the need to apply Clarymist ™ eye spray arises when make-up is being worn, then we recommend applying from a larger distance of approximately 20cm. This should prevent the make-up running. Remember not to rub Clarymist ™ eye spray into the eyelids.

There are no known allergic reactions between Clarymist ™ eye spray and make-up or cosmetics.

Contact lenses: Can I use Clarymist ™ eye spray while wearing my contact lens ?
Yes. Wearing contact lens can often lead to dry eyes by disturbing the lipid layer of the eye, resulting in increased tear evaporation. Using Clarymist ™ eye spray has no known adverse effect on contact lens.

Durability: How long can Clarymist ™ eye spray be used after opening of the bottle?
Life of product is 3 years after opening.

Does Clarymist ™ eye spray Smell?
Clarymist ™
eye spray has a slight inherent smell of lecithin (phospholipids), which disappears very quickly after application.

We do not seek to eliminate this smell as this may reduce the performance of Clarymist ™ eye spray.

Why does the Clarymist ™ eye spray stop working before the bottle is completely empty?
For technical reasons the bottle cannot be emptied completely. The standpipe does not reach to the very bottom of the bottle, as this could affect the spray. However, all Clarymist ™ eye spray bottles are "over-filled" to ensure that consumers can use at least 10ml.

Clinical Trials

Trial 1 – Proven effectiveness of Clarymist ™

Stringent Methodology
A study of 382 dry eye sufferers was performed in Stuttgart between August 2003 and May 2004 to test the effectiveness of Clarymist ™ eye spray – at that time marketed in Germany as Tears Again TM. The methodology for the trial was exceptionally stringent, being 'double blind', which means that neither the clinicians nor the volunteer users knew who was taking the real product and who was taking a placebo control. These precautions eliminate the common experimental errors of observer and subject bias, and assure highly reliable findings.

Clearly Demonstrated Effectiveness
At the end of the trial, parameters such as LIPCOF, BUT, and Schirmer were all significantly superior in the treatment group compared to the control group. Other effects included a remarkable reduction of 89.5% in inflammation of the margins of the eyelid. Questioning of the patients revealed a subjective perception of reduced symptoms in 72% of the cases. Also every patient was of the opinion that using Clarymist ™ eye spray is more straightforward and more pleasant than tear substitute eye drops.

Trial 2 – Comparative trial demonstrates efficacy and usability

Positive comparison with eye gel
A further blinded crossover study compared Clarymist ™ eye spray with a triglyceride gel treatment that also addresses the tear film lipid phase. Parameters measured were almost identical to the first study.

The conclusions state that Clarymist ™ eye spray showed statistically significant clinical advantages over the triglyceride tear substitute on all the key measurements. In addition, 96% of the patients stated that they preferred the Clarymist ™ eye spray method of application to the gel system.
