The amino acid glutamine is the primary fuel of the lining of the digestive system and of the immune system. It can also be used as a fuel by brain cells and is stored in muscles. Although the body can make glutamine from food, a supplement may be useful at demanding times or during convalescence when extra may be of value. Glutamine may also be helpful for appetite management. Glutamine is a slightly sweet powder which can be stirred into water or juice or sprinkled on food.
