Tincture of Euphrasia officinalis
(Eyebright) herb, extracted in alchohol (66% v/v) |

This product may have the following benefits
(please
read this important notice concerning supplement medical claims)
Bioforce Euphrasia (Eyebright)
May be helpful for symptoms of:
- Conjunctivitis
- Blepharitis (inflammation
of the eyelids)
-
Hayfever (irritated, itchy eyes)
As the common name, Eyebright,
suggests, Euphrasia is a phytotherapeutic remedy traditionally used
for maintaining the health of the eyes.
Euphrasia contains a number of
important constituents which include tannins.
The tannins are astringents which
help to dry up secretions and have the ability to relieve
inflammatory conditions of the mucous membranes.
Euphrasia has been widely used in
Europe since the 17th Century. Milton, in his poem Paradise Lost,
described how the Archangel Michael administered 'Euphrasy' to clear
the film from Adam's eyes to restore his sight.
Mrs M Grieve, in 'A Modern Herbal'
wrote "The name Euphrasia is of Greek origin, derived from
Euphrosyne (gladness), the name of one of the three graces who
was distinguished for her joy and mirth, and it is thought to have
been given the plant from the valuable properties attributed to it
as an eye medicine preserving eyesight and so bringing gladness into
the life of the sufferer." She continues "In the fourteenth century,
it was supposed to cure 'all evils of the eye' and is described as
the source of 'a precious water to clear a man's sight.'"

Herbs
For thousands of years, herbs have been used to help maintain many aspects of
health and wellness. Today, research and technology are bringing herbalism into
the modern age – with improved extraction, standardization, and farming
methods. Clinical studies are beginning to validate herbal therapies, so even
some in the medical community are starting to accept them.
Many of today’s
medicines were originally derived from botanicals. Aspirin once came from the
white willow tree, quinine from the bark of the cinchona tree, and digitalis
from foxglove. Herbs are still the basis for Chinese medicine and are important
constituents of many European natural remedies. As Hippocrates said, “Let they
food by thy medicine, thy medicine be thy food”.
Some of the herbs
available on this site are wild-crafted – grown in the wild – while others
are meticulously cultivated on herb farms.
