Background
Many people suffer from milk intolerance,
often due to a genetic lack of the correct enzyme secretion.
Milk intolerance usually relates to an
inability to digest lactose (milk sugar). However, there may sometimes
be an intolerance to the protein in milk as well as malabsorption of
milk fats.
Prolactazyme Plus is the most potent
enzyme complex available in the UK (to our knowledge) which has been
designed specifically to assist with the complete digestion of milk and
milk products.
Features
-
Prolactazyme Forte provides vegetable
enzymes to assist with the digestion of dairy products
-
Contains high strength, biologically
active lactase to digest milk sugar (lactose) into the simple sugars
glucose and galactose
-
Vegetable rennin converts milk protein
to casein allowing exposure to the protein digesting enzymes
bromelain and papain
-
Lipase helps with the efficient
digestion of milk and dairy fats
-
Amylase is required for the complete
digestion of carbohydrates
-
L.acidophilus and L.bulgaricus help
with milk digestion by liberating 'on-site' enzymes in the gut and
help maintain a healthy balance of intestinal microflora
-
Prolactazyme is vacuum packed to
maintain potency, stability and shelf-life of the enzymes
-
Prolactazyme is stable against stomach
pH and able to retain digestive capability over a wide range of pH
variances
-
All enzymes are from vegetable sources
and suitable for vegetarians and vegans

Digestive Enzymes
Proper digestion is one of the body’s most important physiological functions in
maintaining overall health and wellness. Maintaining normal digestion aids in
proper absorption and elimination.
When digestion is incomplete or disordered, food and other nutritional
substances don’t break down and assimilate properly – so you can’t obtain their
full nutritional value. In addition, food molecules that have not been
completely digested can be inappropriately absorbed into the systemic
circulation, contributing to a variety of food associated disorders, such as
food intolerance. Incomplete digestion of proteins, fats and carbohydrates may
also contribute to nutritional deficiency.
Natural digestive enzymes and emulsifying agents are excellent aids to the
digestive and absorption processes.
Two important digestive enzymes are extracted from tropical fruits. Papain, from
papayas, has a mild, soothing effect on the stomach and helps aid in protein
digestion. Bromelain, from pineapple, also helps aid protein digestion.
Amylase digests starch and carbohydrates in foods such as potatoes, rice,
cereals, beans and all legumes. Amylase is produced by the salivary glands in
the mouth, by the pancreas and by the small intestine. Improper or incomplete
digestion of carbohydrates may cause a variety of symptoms such as bloatedness,
flatulence, low energy levels and other digestive problems. It may also reduce
the body’s ability to absorb nutrients from foods containing carbohydrates.
Lactase has been shown to be effective in breaking down milk sugar (lactose).
Lipase helps to break down fats in the diet to a more assimilable form which can
be absorbed by the body (i.e. into glycerol and fatty acids). Lipase is secreted
by the pancreas and the small intestine. Supplemental lipase may be helpful when
the diet is high in fats, placing a burden on the digestion. Fat-soluble
vitamins such as A, E, E and K are absorbed more efficiently from the gut along
with dietary fats. Carotenoids such as beta carotene and lycopene are absorbed
more efficiently with dietary fats.
Sucrase, maltase and lactase break down complex sugars into simple sugars.
