ANTIOXIDANTS MAY DELAY ONSET OF ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE
Two new studies indicate that Vitamins C and E may delay the onset of
Alzheimer’s disease by preventing free radicals from causing oxidative
damage.
The first study was led by Dr Marianne J Englehart of the Erasmus Medical
Centre in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. When her team analysed the diets
of 5395 adults in a 6-year study, the researchers found that people
consuming the most Vitamins C and E were least likely to develop Alzheimers.
In the second study, Dr Martha Clare Morris and team of Rush Institute
for Healthy Ageing in Chicago, Illinois, also concluded that people
who consumed foods high in Vitamin E were less likely to develop Alzheimers.
