AquaSource Sea Power Algae

This product brings together potent natural foods from the sea, where life originated, providing a selection of nutrients that are important for health and well-being. It is a blend of 3 different types of sea algae (seaweed): brown algae, red algae, and green algae, combined with AquaSource Algae (blue-green algae). These different types of algae grow in different locations, so have adapted to very different conditions and climates. Each contains a broad spectrum of micronutrients and has simplicity, having evolved millions of years ago, that means they are easily absorbed by the human body. When combined, they provide a more balanced nutritional profile than each individually, containing, on a gram for gram basis, a wide range of nutrients. The product provides organic dried whole plants, rather than extracts that lack the balance found in nature.

Red Algae - Lithothamnion Sp.

This organic seaweed is harvested from the seabed in mineral rich, pollution free Atlantic waters. Weight for weight this organic seaweed is high in calcium and contains a wide range of other minerals and trace elements. Corraline algae, of which this is one, are known to be amongst the most robust plants in the sea, living in the depths of the sea.

Minerals are important to good health and are vital to the efficient functioning of many tissues, bones and organs in the body.

However, due to intensive farming and the addition of an excess of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium to maximize yield of crops, our soils have become depleted of minerals over the years. This can lead to disruption in the natural ratios of minerals in the soil and may lead to a lack of minerals being incorporated into land-grown food. However, this has not happened as extensively in the oceans and minerals and trace elements still exist in natural ratios in plants that grow in the sea. Thus seaweeds can be a good source of certain minerals and other important nutrients.

Green Algae - Dunaliella Salina Algae

This green marine alga is a primitive, single-celled, micro-marine algae that evolved over 500 million years ago. It has a soft cell membrane which makes it easy to digest. Organically grown, without herbicides or pesticides in clean, mineral-rich Australian seawaters, it is extremely nutrient dense. The high UV sunlight and low rainfall provide a perfect environment for its growth.

Dunaliella Saline Algae is best known for being the richest natural source of beta-carotene (pre-cursor to vitamin A), a powerful antioxidant. This is a deep red pigment, which protects the algae from excessive light. Weight for weight, it provides over 200 times the amount of beta-carotene as carrots. Note that beta-carotene from natural sources such as algae is superior to synthetically produced beta-carotene in its antioxidant action. Other carotenoids present are alpha-carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin and cryptoxanthin.

Gram for gram, whole dried organic Dunaliella Salina Algae, as used in Sea Power Algae (not an extract as found in many other supplements) is rich in chlorophyll, polysaccharides, minerals, vitamins and essential fatty acids (such as Omega 3 and Omega 6, beneficial oils that are passed up the food chain to fish).

Brown Algae - Ascophyllum nodosum

AquaSource have sourced only the best organic wild Ascophyllum Seaweed from Norway. Of all the 'Brown' algae the 'wrack' seaweeds have the broadest balance of nutrients, and among these, due to their unique Arctic habitat and evolution, the Arctic wrack varieties are widely considered to be more nutrient dense than more southerly varieties.

Only fresh, living wild plants are harvested, cleaned, air-dried and immediately ground. Nothing is extracted or added. Harvesting is sustainable, allowing the cut plants to grow again, and is carried out each summer among hundreds of islands stretching many miles off the Lapland coast of Norway.

Gram for gram, the particular arctic wrack seaweed used in AquaSource Sea Power Algae contains 200 times more iron than beet greens, the richest land-grown vegetable. It also contains 100 times more iodine than an equivalent amount of any land-grown vegetable, and some 14 times more calcium than cow's milk. Weight for weight, this ocean vegetable not only contains a wide range of minerals but also contains vitamins, amino acids, essential fatty acids and polysaccharides (natural sugars).

Blue-Green Algae - AquaSource Algae - Aphanizomenon flos-aquae

At the base of the food chain, blue-green algae, have survived life on earth for billions of years. These wild algae grow in the Upper Klamath Lake, a lake formed by a volcano and hence mineral rich. It perfectly complements the other algae used in AquaSource Sea Power Algae.

On a gram for gram basis, AquaSource Algae is a rich source of a wide range of nutrients including protein (containing amino acids in readily assimilable form), minerals, vitamins (high in iron, vitamin C, vitamin B12 and vitamin B5), antioxidants (including carotenoids), chlorophyll, phycocyanin (a rare blue pigment), essential fatty acids and other chemicals important for healthy brain function.

The soft cell wall means that the nutrients in this remarkable 'whole'food' are easily taken up by our bodies.

AquaSource Sea Power Algae provides a considered combination of these dried whole food algae from organic sources (grown without chemicals or fertilisers), each exceptional in their own right.
